Cienfuegos, January 7 (RHC) -- More than 40 young people from general education, outstanding in each of its fronts, led the Caravan of Freedom in its entry Saturday night to the city of Cienfuegos, as 65 years ago the bearded entered with Commander in Chief Fidel Castro at the head of the Rebel Army.

In front of the highest authorities of the province and with the invading anthem in the background, the retinue made its entrance to José Martí Park, whose center was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2005 by Unesco.

Full of students, workers and neighbors, who more than six decades ago were here to receive the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, this time the public space received the beardless soldiers in olive green.

Anisley Cordero González, first secretary of the Communist Youth Union in the province of Cienfuegos, expressed the feelings of the youth when she said that "we renew the commitment to honor the legacy of Fidel and the struggle and sacrifice of the rebel hosts that marked the path to freedom and sovereignty".

He assured that this is a transcendental moment of history, justice and sovereignty, and we must honor this bravery.

"We look to the future, he said, because next April fourth will take place the twelfth congress of the UJC, and we must link the ideals of struggle and freedom, and reflect on the power of youth to transform tomorrow full of opportunities."

With emblematic songs by Carlos Puebla, the troubadour Lázaro García, and the duo Los Hermanos Novo, they enlivened the grounds of José Martí Park.

On his way to Havana, Fidel would divert the Caravan of Freedom for the only time to reach Cienfuegos to thank the people for their dignified attitude and participation in the popular armed uprising of September 5, 1957, in which sailors and members of the 26th of July Movement, led the insurrection against the tyrant Fulgencio Batista.
