Cuba and Bhutan have 13 years of diplomatic relations

Havana, January 8 (RHC) The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, sent a message of congratulations to the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, for the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.

According to the Cuban embassy in India concurrently in Bhutan, the king conveyed the greetings on behalf of his government and people and highlighted the ties that unite both nations.

In 2024, Cuba and Bhutan will celebrate the thirteenth anniversary of diplomatic relations, reinforced with ties of friendship, collaboration and dialogue.

The ties between the two countries have their fundamental antecedent in the meeting in Havana in 1979 during the 6th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement between the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the then King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Cuba contributed to the social development of Bhutan by granting scholarships for the study of medicine.

In turn, the small South Asian country always expresses its support for Cuba's cause for the elimination of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States. (Source: PL)
