Haitian emigrants arrive on the north coast of Villa Clara

Havana, Jan 22 (RHC) A group of 38 Haitian emigrants landed this Sunday on the coast of the municipality of Caibarién, 50 kilometers from the city of Santa Clara.

The emigrants arrived this Sunday at Cayo Santa María along the coastal edge of the Los Farallones hotel, belonging to the hotel network of the tourist complex of the northern keys in the Cuban province of Villa Clara.

The prevailing bad weather made it impossible for the boat in which they were heading towards United States territory to navigate. The health authorities of the territory immediately provided them with medical care and humanitarian aid, as established in international standards.

Iván Medina Bravo, head of operations of the Red Cross in Villa Clara, told the press that, after compliance with the protocols established in these cases, the group of Haitian emigrants was transferred to the Willian Darias semi-boarding school, in Santa Clara, where they receive the necessary attention.

He stressed that the Cuban authorities remain in contact with the Haitian Government, in order to ensure the safe and voluntary return of these people to their country, by virtue of international commitments on migration, of which Cuba is a party. (Source: PL)
