The base has been illegally occupied by the Unites States since 1903

Havana, February 16 (RHC) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel recalled this Friday the 121 years since the signing of the agreement that allowed the illegal establishment of the US naval base in Guantánamo.

The military installation occupies an area of 117.6 square kilometers of Cuban national territory, occupied since 1903 against the will of the Cuban people as a result of an Agreement for Coal and Naval Stations signed between the government of the United States and the government of Cuba, then chaired by Tomás Estrada Palma.

On multiple occasions, Cuba has shown rejection of the US military presence and has demanded that the illegally occupied territory be returned, as its permanence only responds to the political objective of trying to violate the sovereign rights of the Caribbean nation. (Source: Cubasi)
