Havana, June 5 (RHC)-- Bruno Rodríguez, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks here this Wednesday with Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Holy See, who is on an official visit until Friday, June 6th.
The current state of bilateral relations between Cuba and the Holy See and the desire to contribute to their strengthening, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of uninterrupted ties, were reaffirmed in the Cubanacán Protocol Hall (El Laguito) in Havana.
Rodríguez extended a cordial welcome to the visitor and expressed the importance Cuba places on fostering rapprochement on issues of special interest to both parties.
Prior to the meeting, and following the formal welcome and greeting, a postal cancellation ceremony was held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the Holy See, which took place on June 7, 1935.
Elio Rodríguez, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, noted that in the nine decades since, and particularly since the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959, constructive and respectful dialogue has been the basis for strengthening bilateral ties, overcoming challenges, and finding a path to building bridges of understanding.
