Moscow, July 4 (RHC / Prensa Latina)-- Russia firmly rejects the tightening of US sanctions against Cuba, which Moscow considers totally unacceptable, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated on Friday. "We reiterate our position: any unilateral sanctions against sovereign and independent states that violate the United Nations Charter and the universally recognized norms and principles of international law are totally unacceptable to us," the spokesperson emphasized.
"We strongly reject the restrictive measures against Havana and consider any type of pressure on the Cuban government and its citizens absolutely unacceptable and illegal. We are convinced that, despite any obstacles from the United States, Cuba will continue to progressively develop its foreign economic relations," Zakharova added.
The diplomat added that Russia will continue to foster cooperation with "its Cuban friends in various fields in the spirit of strategic cooperation."
"We will expand our political cooperation, deepen practical exchange for the sake of social and economic development, and increase bilateral contacts in many areas. We are convinced that the U.S. sanctions policy toward Cuba is doomed to failure," the spokesperson emphasized.
