Havana, December 1 (RHC-PL) -- The British Royal Navy frigate HMS ARGYLL, arrived Sunday in Havana for a friendly visit. A 21-gun salute from the visiting ship was reciprocated by a battery from the colonial Fortress of San Carlos de La Cabaña, in Havana's bay.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Commander Paul Hammond said this is an opportunity to further strengthen relations with the Cuban people. In a following reception, the Vice President of the Public Administration Council in Havana, Juan Montalvo, told the visitor that he will be able to verify Cuba's effort to improve the economic context in the country.

At the event, Montalvo granted Hammond the commemorative Medal for the 495th Anniversary of the City of Havana.

As part of their stay in Cuba, the British sailors will hold meetings with top officials of the Cuban Revolutionary Navy and visits to places of historical and cultural relevance.
