Russian Authorities Stress Commitment of Raul Castro to the Cuban Revolution

Moscow, June 16 (RHC)-- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has described the life and work of Cuban President Raul Castro as an example of comprehensive and honorable commitment to his homeland and people.


During the launching of a biographical book on Raul Castro by Russian historian and writer Nikolai Leonov, the Russian foreign minister said that the Cuban leader dedicated his life to the Revolution and to his nation and this led to deep respect by his people.

Just a little over a month ago, on May 8th, Cuba and Russia marked the 55th anniversary of the re-establishment of relations and Raul, like his brother Fidel, continues to contribute in a significant manner to the deepening of collaboration between our nations, Lavrov pointed out.


While issuing an invitation to read what he says is an interesting and attractive biography, Lavrov said that the work of writer Leonov
contains numerous facts related to the Cuban Revolution and to relations between Moscow and Havana.
 

The Russian government official stressed the merits of Raul Castro in achieving a special place for Cuba in international relations.


The book launch was attended by Latin American ambassadors, military attaches, Russian diplomats and members of the Russia-Cuba Friendship
Association as well as Russian deputies.

Also present was Deputy Foreign Minister Serguei Ryabkov and the director of the Latin American Department, Alexander Schetinin.
