Havana, April 16(RHC)-- President Raúl Castro Ruz has reaffirmed the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution, as proclaimed by leader Fidel Castro 55 years ago on April 16th, 1961.

Addressing Saturday's opening session of the 7th Congress of the political organization, President Raúl, who is also the First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), said that during their summit meeting, Cuban communists will debate four complex, comprehensive documents that will guide the country's development efforts towards building a prosperous, sustainable socialism.

Created in 1965, the Cuban Communist Party has some 700 000 members. It has a Central Committee, made up of 114 members led by a Political Bureau, and a seven-member Secretariat.
