Mexico’s Desierto: Best Fiction Film at International New Latin American Film Festival

The film Desierto by Mexican director Jonás Cuarón won the Coral Award as Best Fiction Movie and for Best Original Music Score at Havana’s 38th International Film Festival.

World known Brazilian actress Sonia Braga was presented with the Coral Award as Best Actress for Aquarius by Kleber Mendonça Filho, who also took home the Fipresci and Signis Prizes. At the awards ceremony held in Havana’s Charles Chaplin Movie Theater, Cuba’s Lester Hamlet took the popularity award for his film Ya no es Antes (Not Like Before), starred by Cuba’s Luis Alberto García, who was awarded the prize as best actor. Other Cuban movies that took prizes home include Últimos días en La Habana (Last Days in Havana) by Fernando Pérez who was presented with the Special Prize of the Jury and Best Sound Track.
