Cuba’s Lyric Theater premieres Romeo and Juliet in May

Havana, May 3 (RHC) – Cuban soprano Bárbara Llanes will star a Cuban National Lyric Theater production of Romeo and Juliet by Charles Gounod in Havana in May.

Scheduled for the Cuban capital’s National Theater in May, the part of Juliet will also be assumed by Angeline Oviedo. Artistically directed by Helson Hernández, the French opera is also scheduled to include the performance of Harold López as Romeo, and mezzos Dunia Pedraza and Giselle Polanco as Gertrud.

The Cuban Radio and TV Institute’s Choir and Orchestras are set to play live music with the conduction of Liagne Mesa and renowned maestro Miguel Patterson. The latter will share the musical direction with Israel’s conductor, maestro Assaf Leibowits. The shows are set for May 11th and 13th at the National Theater’s Avellaneda Hall.
