Havana's Theatre Festival

Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- The 19th edition of the International Theatre Festival of Havana will be held October 23rd through the 31st on digital platforms, due to the complex epidemiological situation in Cuba and around the world, generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Organized by the National Council on Performing Arts, the event will be dedicated to the 90th birthday anniversary of Berta Martínez, the 80th anniversary of the play Electra Garrigó by Cuban playwright Virgilio Piñera and the 60th anniversary of Revolution leader Fidel Castro’s iconic speech ‘Palabras a los intelectuales,’ (Words to Intellectuals), with a broad program that includes stage performances, conferences and panel discussions.

For this year’s edition, the organizing committee selected 22 works out of 268 proposals. They said that the selected works best represent current trends and styles in contemporary theatre. This way, internet users will be able to enjoy works by theatre groups from Germany, Spain, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and the host country, Cuba.
