Havana, May 18 (RHC)-- The National Museum of Music in Havana presented Thursday the Museum of the Year Award and recognitions to specialists and institutions that work for the welfare and sustainable development of the community.

The International Museum Day was propitious to highlight the sustained work of several galleries in the country, among them the provincial and municipal galleries of Las Tunas and Guantanamo, in eastern Cuba.

Meanwhile, the institution Casa de los Hermanos Saíz, in western Cuba, received the award for the preservation of the objects exhibited there, including some of the Saíz family's belongings.

The Museo de las Parrandas was also honored for treasuring the legacy of these popular festivities.

These awards are part of the work carried out for decades by these art galleries in support of the exchange and cultural enrichment of the different Cuban localities.

Independently of these awards, in the category of Museums of the Year, the work of several women doctors in museology was recognized.

Among them, Ana Daelé Valdés, from the eastern province of Guantánamo, who for more than 30 years has served as deputy director of the Provincial Center for Cultural Heritage.

Museologist Maricela Rodriguez, from the central province of Ciego de Avila, received special recognition for her arduous career in conservation and dedication to socio-cultural studies in that territory.

These cultural institutions can contribute in many ways to the promotion of inclusion and the fight against isolation and the improvement of mental health, so we commend their work through educational programs, exhibitions, community outreach activities and research.
