Camagüey, August 9 (RHC) - In the context of the preparation for the Olorum 2023 Festival, Irradiating Aché, it was announced in this city that the Olorum Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Berta Armiñán Linares, a dancer and pioneer of professional folk singing in Cuba.

Reinaldo Echemendía Estrada, director of the Camagüey Folkloric Ballet and president of the Organizing Committee of the cultural event, announced on Tuesday in a press conference that this award was granted to the diva from Santiago for her long and impeccable career, and for representing a stronghold of traditional culture and folklore at the national level.

He emphasized that this award is a recognition of an outstanding figure in Cuban folk singing, and it aims to encourage her and provide her with energy to continue her teachings, make the most of her legacy, and hopefully, one day she can receive the National Dance Award, stated Maestro Echemendía Estrada.

The news was communicated to the dance artist and excellent singer through a phone call, where she expressed her excitement and unexpected surprise. At the same time, she thanked them for considering her and offering her such a beautiful tribute.

She also confirmed her participation in Olorum 2023, which will take place from September 14 to 17 in the city of Camagüey, and will be dedicated precisely to women in folk dance.

According to the digital platform Cubarte, Berta Armiñán Linares is the creator of the "Gran gagá," inspired by the profane festivities that the Haitians held during Holy Week, where they showcased the great strength and genius bestowed upon them by the voodoo loas.

Recognized for her unique and uncommon tone and timbre of voice, she will be honored with other awards and warmly welcomed in the city of Camagüey with the respect and admiration she deserves.

In this edition, there will also be room for theoretical events, cultural exchanges, and the participation of dance companies from Mexico, as well as artistic representations from other provinces of the Cuban nation.
