President Díaz-Canel laments death of former Cuban baseball player

Havana, September 2 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel lamented the death of former Pinar del Río and Cuba team pitcher Reinaldo Costa, who died of COVID-19.

On his Twitter account, the president conveyed his condolences to Costa's family and friends, one of the few players who achieved the triple crown of pitching in our National Series.

Along with his message, the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba shared the letter of the president of the Cuban Sports Institute, Osvaldo Vento, after learning of the death of the former star pitcher from Pinar del Río.

"Our condolences go to his family and friends," wrote Vento in the social network Twitter on the unfortunate loss of Costa, who in that 1984 campaign, achieved 12 hits and only one failure, struck out 60 opponents and left an average of 1.67 clean runs.

Reinaldo Costa was born on February 9, 1959 and during his 12 seasons as a player, he recorded 110 wins and 67 losses, with 814 strikeouts, 466 walks and a 3.14 ERA.
