Auckland, New Zealand, December 1 (PL) - Argentina beat Venezuela 6-3 today and Cuba lost 0-3 to Australia in the softball World Cup in New Zealand.

The Argentines, defending champions, filed their fifth consecutive victory and retained their undefeated status in the championship, to ratify themselves as the great favorites for the title.

Cuba, which the day before had caused a surprise with a victory over the host New Zealanders, lost on Thursday and saw their chances of reaching the podium reduced.

In other results of the day, New Zealand defeated South Africa 7-0, Japan beat the Philippines 8-3, the Czech Republic defeated Denmark 7-2 and Canada beat the United States 4-3 to remain unbeaten in the tournament.

After these results, Argentina and Canada are tied for first place in Group A, while Japan and New Zealand lead Group B.

The following matches are scheduled for the next day: South Africa-Czech Republic, United States-Australia, Venezuela-Cuba, Philippines-Denmark, Japan-New Zealand and the main event Argentina-Canada.
