Portuarios dominate sub-series against Elite Baseball League leader

Havana, December 9 (JIT) - The runner-up Portuarios left the leader Agricultores on the field 9x8, thus winning the particular sub-series and took a firm step in search of the post-season of the First Elite League of Cuban Baseball.

The team that includes players from Industriales and Mayabeque tied the game 6x6 in the ninth inning.

In the top of the tenth, with the Schiller Rule, the Agricultores scored two runs and put the scoreboard 8x6, but the pupils of mentor Michael Gonzalez countered with three and put an end to the duel.

For the winners, catcher Oscar Valdés, 4-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in, stood out.

Meanwhile, Tabacaleros counted on another phenomenal pitching performance by the best pitcher of the tournament, Artemio right-hander Yunieski García, to beat runner-up Centrales 4-0.

García pitched seven acts in which he struck out six times and gave up five hits to achieve his sixth victory, leader of the tournament.

At bat, shortstop Dayán García went 4-2 with a homer, a triple and a tow.

In the other game, Ganaderos broke loose and hit 14 hits to defeat Cafetaleros 10x2.

The Ganaderos' top hitter was catcher Osvaldo Vázquez, who went 4-3 and drove in two runs. There was another good performance by right-hander Frank Madan, who in seven episodes tolerated four singles and fanned five opponents.

After these results, Agricultores (23-14) continues to lead, ahead of Centrales (20-17), Tabacaleros (18-18), Ganaderos (17-19), Cafetaleros (16-20) and Portuarios (16-22).
