Cuban baseball: a little bit of everything... and a little bit more

Havana, May 30 (ACN) - The traditional Monday meeting between the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) and the specialized press took place at the Adolfo Luque Hall of the Latin American Stadium with a variety of topics and fruitful exchanges.

Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the FCB, explained that there is a national pre-selection of 39 players for the Central American and Caribbean Games that will begin next June 23 in San Salvador.

The official selection of 24 players will be announced as soon as possible at the beginning of the Games, and the team will be concentrated from June 19 at the Coloso del Cerro. The departure to El Salvador will be on June 22 and Cuba will debut one day later against Mexico, said Perez Pardo.

They also discussed the issue of the baseball player Yasmani Tomás, who has played in the professional leagues of the United States and Mexico, and is now asking to be incorporated into the Cuban baseball system.

In this regard, Pérez Pardo pointed out that Yasmany Tomás is interested in joining the Cuban team for the Central Caribbean Games; but he must be in top sporting shape and to reconcile with him that possible inclusion in the team.

In addition, in today's exchange it was confirmed that the Alazanes de Granma team, with reinforcements, will be the Cuban representative in the promotional event of the Champions League of Baseball from September 28th.

About the LXII National Baseball Series, it was reported that there will be no All-Star Game or Awards Gala, and that the recovery and play-off games will be played with the Teammate ball and not with the current Batos ball.

Carlos Martín, director of the Series, expressed that so far 16 games have been suspended and another one has been sealed. He also explained that 4,675 balls have been lost -the public present in the stadiums does not return them-, and 11.05 bats have been broken each day.
