Some 150 foreigners in Havana Taekwondo Open

Havana, September 30 (JIT) - Some 150 foreigners from some 20 nations will participate in the Havana Taekwondo Open, with G1 category, scheduled for October 3-6 at the Havana Sports City Coliseum.

This was confirmed to JIT by Ivan Fernandez, president of the Cuban federation of this sport.

"Around 300 taekwondists will participate, as Cuba will present almost as many as foreigners in combat (kyorugui) and poomsae (imaginary combat)," meant the also Seventh Dan and national commissioner.

"We will be with our national team and athletes from provinces. Of those who are committed to the Pan American Games of Santiago 2023, only those with level opponents will participate," he concluded.

The competition will include the youngest modality of this sport, the team kyorugui (TK3), in which the teams will be formed by three taekwondocas identified as fighters one, two and three, plus an alternate if the coach considers it necessary.

The members of the men's teams must weigh no more than 225 kg, while the women are limited to 195 kg.

According to the program of the event, on October 3 the participants will be registered, on October 4 we will have the poomsae and on the 5th and 6th the bouts, including TK3.

Then, on October 7 and 8, the open festival will take place with athletes without rank to compete in the G1 events. This includes the cadet (12-14 years), youth (15-17) and senior (+18) categories.
