Taily and Sunel finished behind the northerners in swimming (275 points), fencing (200) and the new steeplechase event (248), which replaces equestrian.

In the combined shooting and running event they led with 14 minutes and 47 seconds, for 413 points, ahead of the Canadians (15:04.00 and 396).

JIT also highlights that the performance not only earned them the silver medal among the under-19s, but also the fifth place overall.

Frank Alberto Martínez, national commissioner of modern pentathlon, told JIT that the competition will continue this Thursday with the individual events of steeplechase and shooting-racing.

The Championship serves as a test for the Cubans, called to participate next year in the junior continental championship in Brazil, qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion 2024, in Paraguay. (Source: ACN)
