Havana, February 16 (JIT) - The Cuban delegation that will attend the First Future Games in Kazan 2024 was flagged off at the Julio Antonio Mella Square of the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI).

The member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, handed over the national ensign to Sergio Alejandro Pérez, who was escorted by Ariel Pérez and Daniel García.

Previously, Jorge Pichardo and Adriano Pérez, members of the delegation, paid tribute to Mella by placing a wreath at the foot of his sculpture.

The central words of the ceremony were given by Raidel Montesino, rector of the UCI, a centre that served as a training base for the group that will compete in Kazan.

Montesino explained that the competition has given way to a new modality with the combination of physical and digital games, and recalled that Russia has organised games in which more than 2,000 athletes from a hundred countries, including Cuba, will participate.

"This is a historic moment. It is the beginning of a new era that integrates e-sports and conventional sports in a practice that is performed in perfect harmony between mind and body. In physical sport we have tradition, results and history, but this will be a new experience. We will go to learn and compete defending the colours of our flag", said the director. The First Future Games will be held from 19 February to 4 March in Kazan.
