Havana, March 27 (RHC) - Cuban cycling star Arlenis Sierra, once again placed in the top ten in an elite classic, finishing eighth in the Dwars door Vlaanderen, raced over 130 km in the Belgian region of Flanders.

As leader of Movistar, "La Pantera", as her club has baptized the Cuban rider, crossed second in the main peloton on Wednesday, which was 51 seconds ahead of the leading group, led by Dutch riders Marianne Vos (Team Visma) and Shirin van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek).

Despite her 36 years of age, Vos, a two-time Olympic and multiple world champion and third last year in the demanding race, took her first victory in the prestigious Belgian race with 3h.18.39, crowning a long breakaway with five other riders.

In the last 3 km, Anrooij attacked and only Vos, who in the end imposed her experience in the sprint, had the strength to jump in her search.

As for Movistar's "La Pantera", she improved on her 92nd place from last year, just days after shining in another race in Belgium, coming in sixth in the Gent-Wevelgem Cycling Classic.

"La Pantera", Arlenis Sierra always delivers: eighth this Wednesday in Dwars door Vlaanderen, more and surely better on Sunday in 'De Ronde'!", Movistar highlighted on social networks.

The Cuban rider is preparing for the Paris-2024 Olympic Games.
