Volleyball

The Cuban women's volleyball team made its debut at the Movistar Pan-American Cup with a hard-won victory over Peru, host of the tournament that opened on the weekend.

The Cuban team won 3-0 in sets fiercely disputed 25-21, 25-20 and 25-22. The Cubans, placed in Group B, efficiently tightened the block, preventing the effectiveness of the Peruvian attack and having Melissa Vargas as the main player.
The Peruvian captain, Clarivett Yllescas, stated her team made many mistakes in serving and emotionally fell to the superiority of the Cuban attack.

In the same series, Dominican Republic defeated Uruguay 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-8) and Argentina defeated 3-0 to Costa Rica (25-14, 25-14, 27-25), Colombia beat Mexico 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) and the United States overpassed Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-22; 25-12; 25-18).

Finally, in that same group, XIX FIDE category, will also rival the Chinese GM Yu Yangyi (2715) and Russian GM Dmitry Andreikin (2718).

 

Football
The soccer team of Chile will face Mexico today in search of its 2nd victory in the current America Cup based in several cities in the South American nation until next July 4th.

For its part, Venezuela and Brazil debuted with victories where Venezuela surprised against the favorite Colombia, while Brazil suffered to beat Peru on Sunday at the start of the actions in Group C.

However, the Cuban team tied 1-1 with Curacao at the Pedro Marrero Stadium in this capital on Saturday, an event corresponding to the CONCACAF 2nd round so it said goodbye to the World Cup Russia 2018.

 

Judo
