The candidate of Apruebo Dignidad, Gabriel Boric, and the far-right José Antonio Kast will go to a second round on December 19th.

Santiago de Chile, November 21 (RHC)-- The Electoral Service (Servel) of Chile after reporting a scrutiny of 80.54 percent of the polling stations, shows that the second round for the Presidency will be between the candidate of Apruebo Dignidad, Gabriel Boric, and the far-right José Antonio Kast on December 19th.

According to the Servel, the percentage corresponds to 37,765 of a total of 46,887 tables to be scrutinized.  For the moment, Kast leads this first round with 28.15 percent and Boric follows with 25.32 percentage points.

On her part, the candidate for the New Social Pact coalition, Yasna Provoste, obtains 11.87 percent (658,358 votes), while Sebastián Sichel (687,294 votes) and Franco Parisi (731,483) are obtaining 12.39 and 13.19 percent of the votes, respectively.

Further down are the candidates Marco Enríquez-Ominami with 7.62 percent (422,440 votes) and Professor Eduardo Artés Brichetti with 1.45 percentage points (80,587 votes).

It is worth mentioning that regarding votes abroad, candidate Boric swept countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Finland, Italy and New Zealand; while Kast obtained a majority in Israel.

After the results were known, the president of the Socialist Party (PS), Alvaro Elizalde, called his militancy to vote in the second round for Boric in view of the danger of the return of Pinochetism to La Moneda, "Kast constitutes a threat and a threat to the life of Chileans", he said.

The election day took place with great affluence, as well as complaints in some areas where polling stations were closed despite the presence of citizens who were waiting to exercise their right to vote.

These complaints occurred although the Servel authorities insisted that as long as citizens are in line their right to vote would be respected, "as long as there is any voter standing in line inside or outside the premises, the polling station must receive the vote of all of them before proceeding with the closing", they said.

In addition to electing a new president, Chileans also elect their representatives to the Chamber of Deputies, Senators and Regional Councils.
