In the meeting between the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, both leaders reviewed the current state of their economic relations and analyzed the migration situation at their common border.

Washington, July 12 (RHC)-- In the meeting between the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, both leaders reviewed the current state of their economic relations and analyzed the migration situation at their common border.

The Mexican president proposed to Biden to regularize and give certainty to the thousands of migrants working in the United States in an irregular manner.

During the meeting that both presidents held at the White House, López Obrador stated that in the United States there is a lack of labor force in industries such as restaurants and factories, which is why the role of migrants in the United States is fundamental.

In a press conference at the White House after receiving his Mexican counterpart, Biden said that both have a good relationship, which he described as solid and productive.  Biden also said that the United States sees Mexico as an equal partner and that the two countries are making large infrastructure investments in the common border.

During the meeting, Lopez Obrador presented his U.S. counterpart with a five-point plan to strengthen the relationship, cooperation and friendship.  Lopez Obrador asked Biden to undertake a "bold program of development and welfare," warning that otherwise "it will not be possible to solve the problems or get the support of the people."

The Mexican President's proposal is to increase cooperation in energy matters, including oil, border gas pipelines, as well as to expand the possibilities offered by the recently created lithium industry.

Earlier, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris received President López Obrador at her residence, and the two officials acknowledged each other as friends. 

"It is a great pleasure to welcome my friend the President of Mexico.  He and I have had some wonderful times together both in Mexico City and here in Washington and it is a pleasure to welcome him here in my home," said the vice president.
