Millions of Venezuelan families receive food from the government

Caracas, March 17 (RHC)-- A total of seven million 500 thousand families in Venezuela receive food bags through the social program of the Local Supply and Production Committees -CLAP-, in all states of the country.

In an event, on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the creation of the CLAPs, in the state of Miranda, President Nicolás Maduro recalled the time when the brutal economic war against the country raged and food was hidden or disappeared from the markets.

From the economic and food war was born the response of the people's food power, he emphasized.

He recalled that in March 2016 there was some money and they started buying four million bags abroad in countries such as Brazil, Panama, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Türkiye and other nations, to distribute among the population.

Maduro pointed out that they came to import up to six million CLAP and then the United States threatened in 2018 the entrepreneurs and in some countries they even put in prison, those who had packaging centers and "they left us" without that possibility, he added.

We were covering step by step, with national production, the years 2020, 2021 and in 2022 came the miracle that 95 percent of the food was produced on Venezuelan soil, "it is a great achievement, from the first local experience, to pass, step by step, to the national experience", he said.

The Head of State highlighted that currently there are more than 45 thousand Local Supply and Production Committees in the country and praised the fact that 73 percent of their leadership and leadership are women, "it is the one who goes to the front, the one who assumes the command", he added.

He demanded that by December 31, 2023, 50 percent of the CLAPs (22,755) have a productive project to produce food, which, he said, is not enough, and proposed that by 2025 the goal would be 75 percent and by the following year to reach its totality.

Some, he said, would be with large projects, with extensions of land, others with medium-sized plans, more humble, but everyone producing.

The Executive Vice-President and Minister of Economy and Finance, Delcy Rodríguez, informed that economic resources are assured through a Financing Fund to give impulse to the Local Supply and Production Committees.
