Shooting in Kentucky, USA, leaves at least five dead and six other injured

Havana, April 10 (RHC) - At least five people were killed and six others were wounded in a shooting that occurred on Monday in the center of the city of Louisville, in the state of Kentucky, the southern region of the United States.

The shooter died shortly after the shooting occurred at 8:30 a.m. local time at Old National Bank in the 300 block of East Main Street, Louisville Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said.

A federal law enforcement source said that the shooting is being described as a case of workplace violence, perpetrated by an employee struggling with mental health issues.

US police authorities confirmed this Monday "multiple casualties" as a result of an active shooting in downtown Louisville, near Slugger Field.

The Louisville Police Department called on the public to stay away from the area in response to the reported shooting at a five-story building in the 300 block of East Main Street, located across from Louisville Slugger Stadium.

The officers confirmed that at least a dozen police cars and three ambulances have been deployed in the area, in which several victims were loaded, according to testimonies on social networks. In the same way, national media indicated that the FBI forces are also arriving in Louisville while Governor Andy Beshear published that he is also in the direction of the area.

The current incident is reported a few hours from Nashville, Tennessee, where a gunman recently carried out a firearm attack on a Christian school, leaving six people dead.

According to an analysis by the Pew Research Center, the number of children and adolescents killed by firearms in the United States increased by fifty percent between 2019 and 2021, which shows the increase in violence in the North American nation. (Source: Telesur)
