Mexico City, June 12 (RHC)-- The Mexican political party Morena (Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional), in which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is a militant, held its National Council over the weekend, an occasion in which the call for the survey to define the candidate for the presidential elections of 2024, whose name will be announced next September, was approved.

This agreement was endorsed by the four Morena aspirants, Claudia Sheinbaum, Marcelo Ebrard, Adán Augusto López and Ricardo Monreal, as well as the Labor Party (PT) and the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM).

The president of Morena's National Council, Alfonso Durazo, informed that aspiring candidates will be able to carry out proselytism tasks between June 19 and August 27.   He also offered other details of the process.

He said that between August 28 and September 3, an internal survey will be carried out to define the candidate, with which everything will be ready to announce on September 6th who will be the person in charge of representing Morena and become the maximum standard bearer of the 4T.

Durazo mentioned that there will be five polls to determine the candidate: one of them will be conducted by Morena and the other four will be "mirror polls."  Whoever emerges victorious from them will be designated as the 4T's Defense Coordinator.

During the meeting of the National Council, unity was defended and that during the campaign events the candidates should behave "in an austere manner, without waste of advertising or propaganda expenses and reject all anti-democratic practices such as harassment, coercion and alliances with groups or individuals in exchange for perks".

Neither may there be any disqualification or aggression among them, a rule to be observed by their followers. On the other hand, while disseminating their projects they will have to avoid "reactionary, conservative, 4T adversaries and supporters of the old regime" media.

On Sunday, Sheinbaum assured that the most important thing for the people of Mexico is that "our movement is more united than ever, that we are going together.  Unity, unity, unity."  For his part, Adán Augusto López called for unity and loyalty around the President of the Republic and a project of nation.

President López Obrador has emphasized that he will not interfere in the designation of the person who will represent the party in the presidential elections and that his party's candidate, as well as his successor, will be designated by the people.
