Panama strengthens its fight against cybercrime

Panama City, Jun 22 (RHC) With the creation of a working group between the Ministry of Security and the General Attorney's Office, Panama strengthens the fight against cybercrime.

According to a report by both entities, this joint mechanism will allow a more efficient investigation of violations in areas such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and systems.

This group will tackle child pornography, computer fraud, intellectual property infringements, and money laundering derived from cybercrime, they said.

In statements to the press, the Minister of Security, Juan Manuel Pino, and the Attorney General, Javier Caraballo, explained that this project was adopted given the increase of illicit actions in the digital world or facilitated through the Internet or other forms of electronic technology.

The agreement includes, among other aspects, the development of procedural manuals and the functions that will govern the actions of the group’s members.

It also calls for developing common priorities and joint operational plans, as well as selecting its representatives, and providing them with training and technical assistance to enhance investigative capacity. (Source: Prensa Latina)
