Havana, October 15 (RHC) -- More than 13 million Ecuadorians are eligible to participate this Sunday in the second round of elections to determine the next president of Ecuador.

The electoral precincts opened to receive Ecuadorians who wish to exercise the obligatory vote between 07H00 and 17H00 local time (12H00 and 22H00 GMT) to choose a presidential formula in elections in which several polls do not give a clear winner.

In this second electoral round, the right-wing candidate for the National Democratic Action (ADN) alliance, Daniel Noboa will face the candidate of the Citizen Revolution group, Luisa Gonzalez, who received the highest number of votes in the elections of last August 20.

If elected, Luisa Gonzalez would become the first woman president of Ecuador.

The winner of the second round will govern the South American nation for almost 17 months until the end of the presidential term of Guillermo Lasso, who dissolved the Congress and called for early elections to avoid impeachment in an impeachment trial for corruption. (Source: TeleSur)
