New York, September 29 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Argentinean President Cristina Fernández raised a series of issues confronting the world and what the international community must do to resolve them at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday. “Debts should be honored, but not if it is at the cost of starving the people,” Fernandez stated, referring to debt crises in many developing countries.

The Argentinean leader went on to mention the importance of the recent decision by the U.N. General Assembly to approve a debt restructuring proposal, which aims to provide governments with the right to design their own macroeconomic policy in the debt repayment negotiations.

“The world must adopt more transparent and democratic measures to negotiate sovereign debt restructuring,” she told fellow world leaders in a passionate speech. President Fernandez also defended progressive Latin American governments in the region for promoting inclusive economic growth and political advancements.

During her speech, Cristina Fernandez also mentioned the alarming acts of international violence being carried out by extremist groups in the Middle East. And she urged world leaders to examine and deeply question how these groups are being financed.
