Washington, April 12 (RHC)-- Authorities from Cuba and the United States reviewed the status of the implementation of the Framework Memorandum of Understanding on Agriculture and the Memorandum of Understanding on Animal and Plant Health, signed by both countries.

A Cuban Foreign Ministry release says that during the technical meeting held in Washington, participants examined the fulfillment of the already agreed activities and newly proposed actions and other initiatives to give continuity to the technical exchanges.

The Foreign ministry said bilateral cooperation in this area benefits Cuban and American farmers and helps boost the sustainability and development of organic agriculture, soil care, water saving, prevention and confrontation of plant pests and animal diseases, as well as organic certification actions, seeds, among others.

The Cuban delegation was headed by Moraima Céspedes Morales, director of International Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture, and was made up by other officials of that ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The US party was chaired by John P. Passino, director of Western Hemisphere Affairs of the Department of Agriculture and was integrated by other officials of that agency and the Department of State.
