Cuba´s Health Minister, Roberto Morales

Geneva, May 23 (RHC)—Cuba has made available to the World Health Organization (WHO) all its experiences, specialized human resources, medical universities and the products of its pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry to help the International body achieve its goal of Health for All.

Cuba´s vice president of the Council of State and Health Minister, Dr. Roberto Morales, made the offer Tuesday in his remarks to the high level segment of the 71st World Health Assembly, which is meeting in Geneva from May 21-26.

Morales pointed out that the Caribbean island continues to work under the concept expressed by the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, of sharing what it has, not its leftovers.

He said that at a time when universal health coverage is a pending issue for many people around the world, 407 thousand Cuban professionals have been present in 164 countries on all continents, and more than 11 thousand young people from 126 nations have graduated from Cuban schools of medicine.

Morales described to the delegates of the World Health Assembly the achievements of the island´s health care system and mentioned relevant indicators such as life expectancy of 78.45 years and an infant mortality of 4,0 per one thousand live births.

'The elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, and the eradication of 14 infectious diseases with the application of 11 vaccines are also important achievements”, said the Cuban minister.
