Cuba Works on a second COVID-10 vaccine

Speaking at the weekly meeting that President Miguel Díaz-Canel chairs with scientists directly involved in the fight against the epidemic, the leader of the project recalled that the study started last August 24th and will continue next week with another 20 volunteers of more than 60 years of age.

Vérez Bencomo informed that work on a second vaccine candidate is advancing rapidly,

"We are finishing the formulation this week. It is a different vaccine, it has the same antigen of Soberana, but it is another platform: one of the conjugated vaccines that we have". It is having interesting responses in animals, very close to the ones that the first vaccine had,” the researcher said.

Verez affirmed that his institute is going to move quickly to try begin clinical trials of the new vaccine in October.
