Cuba celebrates Ozone Layer Preservation Day

Havana, Sep 16 (RHC)-- Cuba celebrates Wednesday the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer by rewarding 12 institutions' work in the definitive elimination of the use of polluting elements in that area of the earth's stratosphere.

The national recognition to those organizations on the island that managed to eliminate ozone-depleting substances was granted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma).

The list includes the hotel E Central, Real, Casa Bausá, Hotel Camino del Príncipe, and Leyendas, located in the central province of Villa Clara.

In addition to these facilities, there are the Ranchón Cuba Libre and Cueva del Jabalí facilities in the territory of Ciego de Ávila.

Besides, there are the Brisas Guardalavaca, Sol Río de Luna y Mares hotels, and the Empresa de Servicios del Niquel, in the eastern province of Holguín.

The tourist institutions Playa las Conchas II in Matanzas and the Hotel Deportivo in Santiago de Cuba also received the award.

On this International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, the Technical Office for Ozon

e of the Center for Information Management and Energy Development attached to the Citma's Agency for Nuclear Energy, and Advanced Technologies also celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The Technical Office for Ozone in Cuba advises national agencies to implement actions to eliminate substances harmful to the ozone layer.

With the slogan 'Ozone for Life', the world is commemorating today the 35th anniversary of the Vienna Convention, Austria, where 28 countries decided to establish a cooperation mechanism to take measures to protect the ozone layer.
