Havana, April 29 (RHC)-- Due to the persistence of the complex epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19,  Cuban authorities have decided to extend, automatically and free of charge, the uninterrupted stay abroad of Cuban citizens beyond 24 months until further notice.

Ernesto Soberón, director-general of Consular Affairs and Cubans Residing Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the announcement.

On Twitter, the executive recalled that this decision, adopted in October 2020, applies to Cuban citizens residing in the national territory, who have been unable to return, due to the closing of borders and the cancellation of flights, as of March 19 last year; who, in addition, may return, exceptionally, with their expired passport and without extending it.

He emphasized that the rest of the provisions adopted to assist Cuban nationals remain in force.
