A flight of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) transported oxygen to the central province of Sancti Spíritus, due to the breakdown of the main factory in the country. 

Sancti Spíritus, August 18 (RHC)-- A flight of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) transported oxygen to the central province of Sancti Spíritus, due to the breakdown of the main factory in the country. 

An AN-26 with 30 cylinders arrived at the airport of the capital of Sancti Spíritus from Santiago de Cuba, in an unprecedented operation in the nation, said Lieutenant Colonel José Luis Díaz. 

The oxygen cylinders were transferred, with the security required in these cases, to the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial General Hospital, the largest hospital in the territory. This alternative, foreseen by the highest authorities of the country, guarantees with the greatest possible agility the supply of this resource to the different Cuban territories, essential in the treatment of patients with Covid 19 Virus. Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel commented that this is the first operation of this type carried out and even though it is dangerous within the norms and in compliance with safety regulations, it is authorized. It was also reported that 30 balloons were also transported to the province of Villa Clara. 

On Sunday, 421 new cases of the pandemic were reported in the territory of Sancti Spiritus, raising the incidence rate to 1,013.4 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The city of Yayabo registered the highest number with 153 cases, followed by Cabaiguán with 72, Jatibonico 68 and Trinidad 54. In the territory, 705 focus controls and 15 events are active, and 1,530 people remain hospitalized.
