Cuba's Parliament prepares unprecedented procedural reform

Havana, October 21 (RHC)--The National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) of Cuba will approve four laws in its upcoming sessions, which constitutes an unprecedented procedural reform, an official source stressed.

In a press conference, the Parliament's Secretary, Homero Acosta, recalled that on October 27 and 28, the Seventh Ordinary Session of the 9th Legislature will be held in person and by videoconference.

The lawmakers will analyze and vote on the bills on Courts of Justice, Criminal Process, Administrative Process, and Code of Processes, which, according to Acosta, stand out for their adaptation to the reality of the country, the Constitution, and innovation in judicial matters.

The Secretary assured that the deputies received in advance information, clarified doubts, and raised changes to these proposed legal norms, enriched with specialists' contribution in the subject.

According to the planned schedule, the legislators will also be briefed on the economy's performance in the first half of 2021, the liquidation of the State budget in 2020, and issues related to the Ordering Task.

In addition, they will receive an update on the contributions of science to the confrontation of Covid-19 in the Antillean nation.

As part of the sessions, they will analyze the results of the high audit in the Ministry of Construction, an exercise mandated in the Magna Carta in force since 2019. Before the ordinary session, standing committees will meet

The Parliament meets in two ordinary sessions per year and in extraordinary sessions when convened by the Council of State or at the request of one-third of its members.
