Cuban anti-Covid-19 vaccines to be used as a booster

Havana, November 10 (RHC)-- Experts from Cuba presented to the country's top management the scientific evidence supporting the use of the national vaccines, Soberana Plus and Abdala, also as an immunological booster dose against Covid-19.

In a meeting of science professionals with President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, the specialists also presented the advantages of the Soberana 01 and Mambisa candidates, also Cuban, to boost the immunity of individuals with the complete vaccination scheme against this disease.

Dagmar Garcia, director of Research at the Finlay Vaccine Institute, pointed out that studies show that Soberana Plus or Soberana 01 can be applied as "booster", the name given by the international scientific community to this process.

Likewise, Marta Ayala, director of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, presented the results of several studies that support the use of Abdala and Mambisa as booster doses.

Like Soberanas, these should be applied six months after vaccination and received by those injected with Soberana 01, Soberana Plus, Abdala, Sinopharm (China), and Sputnik V (Russia).

For her part, Ileana Morales, director of Science and Technological Innovation of the Ministry of Public Health, presented the vaccination strategy for the booster dose, which some two million Cubans will receive before the end of this year.

Díaz-Canel asked scientists to carry out studies as soon as possible to evaluate the immunity time left in the body by this additional dose to schedule its application whenever necessary.

During the day, the Cuban head of state also presided over the meeting of the temporary working group for the confrontation of Covid-19. He evaluated by videoconference the epidemiological situation in each province of the country, the source informed.
