Havana, Sep 22 (RHC) Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo thanked the international community for their support in the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba more than six decades ago.

Through her Twitter account, the diplomat stressed that the universal demand for the cessation of that unilateral policy was once again a relevant topic in the general debate of the 77th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, based in New York, from September 20 to 26.

"We appreciate the strong pronouncements of the dignitaries of Suriname, Guyana, Gabon, Namibia, Dominica, and South Africa," Rodriguez Camejo said.

In another tweet, the Cuban deputy foreign minister affirmed that "the U.S. blockade against her country is unilateral, illegal, cruel and immoral, and directly and dramatically affects the Cuban family; it is an act of economic war in peacetime," she remarked.

The day before, at the UN General Assembly, the president of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, said that the siege against the largest Antillean island should be lifted since in today's world differences should be settled through dialogue and cooperation.

For his part, the president of Namibia, Hage Geingob said that it is time for Cubans to receive

the right to a dignified life, free from an unfair policy like that of Washington that deprives them of the possibility of developing their country.

"I call once again for the lifting of the embargo that has affected the government and the people of Cuba for many years," said the president of the Gabonese Republic, Ali Bongo Ondimba.

In the debate, the Guyanese head of state, Irfaan Ali, also joined the majority of the members of the international community, reiterating the rejection of the sanctions imposed on Cuba.

According to official figures, in the first 14 months of President Joseph Biden's administration alone, the damage caused by the blockade amounted to 6,364 million dollars.

As a result, the Cuban economy has experienced extraordinary pressures, which are manifested in industry, the provision of services, the scarcity of food and medicines, and the deterioration of the level of consumption and general welfare of the population.

The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, said in his speech at the event that the human damage generated by this policy to all Cuban families is impossible to quantify, it is enormous, cruel and immoral.
