Havana, Dec 22 (RHC) The objectives for next year aim to strengthen and expand the international movement of solidarity with Cuba, said Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

While sharing the institution's projections for 2023 and assessing the present period with representatives of the national and foreign press, the also Hero of the Republic was described as very active and committed to the actions of the friendship groups with the largest of the Antilles in other parts of the world.

In that sense, Gonzalez Llort highlighted the contribution of 1,649 friendship associations in 150 countries, six of them new, and 73 associations of graduates in 62 countries that maintain links with ICAP, in addition to the groups of Cubans living abroad.

In his opinion, the international days against the blockade and the initiatives promoted by spaces such as the Bridges of Love Platform, the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Network, Unblock Cuba, and the Summit of the Peoples in Los Angeles, among others, had a special impact.

In this way, he assured that the mobilizations also focused on the inclusion of other demands such as the removal of Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism; the return of the territory illegally occupied by the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo, and the defense of Cuban medical collaboration.

In the current year Cuba received the visit of friends from 56 countries, including six International Brigades of volunteer work and solidarity with Cuba: the 1st of May; the "Ernesto Che Guevara" from Canada; the Anténor Firmin from Haiti; the Juan Rius Rivera from Puerto Rico, and the Latin American and Caribbean Youth Brigade in its first edition, he added.

The Cuban hero noted that the organization has been ratified as Regional Coordinator of the Americas and the Caribbean and a member of the Executive Committee and the Secretariat of the World Peace Council and maintains its support to the struggles of the peoples for their right to sovereignty and self-determination.

Among the priorities, he emphasized the need to make known to U.S. citizens the injustices committed by his government against the Island, which ignores the will of the international community to end of hostility toward the Caribbean nation. Source: (ACN)
