La Plata raised the morale of the troops.

Havana, Jan 17 (RHC) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted on Tuesday the moral power of the guerrilla led by Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016)  whose first victorious action occurred on January 17, 1957.

The president recalled on Twitter the battle of La Plata, in the Sierra Maestra, in which 29 members of the nascent Rebel Army defeated troops of the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista and showed their will to in the fight.

In the same social network, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz said that this combat "proved the presence of the guerrillas in the mountains, determined to continue the struggle to achieve the revolutionary triumph".

The combat of La Plata was a small action from the military point of view, but it gave a strong blow to the government propaganda about the total annihilation of the guerrilla group in Alegria de Pio and raised the morale of the troops.

That site would later play an important role in the actions of the revolutionaries since it was there that the historical leader, Fidel Castro, would place the headquarters of his troops. (Source: Prensa Latina)
