Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan

Havana, Apr 23 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated on Saturday that there are possibilities to continue to expand collaboration with Singapore in several sectors.

At a meeting with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan at the Palace of the Revolution, the Cuban president highlighted the good state of bilateral relations, the Presidency of the Republic reported on its website.

Diaz-Canel pointed out that this is confirmed by the intensity of high-level visits between the two countries and by the active participation of the Singaporean business community in Cuba, with participation in major sectors, such as ports, biotechnology pharmaceuticals, and tourism.

These businesses are going well and open up the possibilities of new projects, and new areas can be found for the development of collaboration, such as food safety and renewable energies, Diaz-Canel added.

The head of State noted that after the modifications of Cuba’s Foreign Investment Law, new prospects are offered for other investments by the local business community.

“We are open to the various business modalities that we may have,” the president told Foreign Minister Balakrishnan.

Diaz-Canel recalled that Singapore’s development model is among Cuba’s benchmarks for updating its economic and social model, due to the efficient way in which that nation achieves business management and improvement programs for the people’s quality of life.

The president invited Singapore to participate in a Summit of the Group of 77 plus China on the global challenges for development from a vision of science, technology and innovation, which will take place in Havana in September.

Diaz-Canel also thanked Singapore for its support for Cuba’s fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States.

Foreign Minister Balakrishnan, in turn, expressed his admiration for Cuba and its people, “for their determination, patriotism, innovative capacity and willingness to move forward despite the challenges posed to this people for more than 60 years,” he stressed. Balakrishnan recalled that this year marks the 25th anniversary of official bilateral relations. (Source: Prensa Latina)
