Experiences on the response to HIV/AIDS will be discussed in Cuba

Havana, Jun 3 (RHC) The 25th Anniversary Conference of the Cuban Network of People with HIV/AIDS will be held on the Caribbean island, to exchange experiences between the different actors involved in the response to this scourge.

Said activity -which will take place from June 19 to 25- will be led by the National HIV Program of the Ministry of Public Health, upon the completion of another year of RedCuba. The conference –this time directed at Microbiology and communicable diseases- will have an international scope in face-to-face and virtual modalities.

In Cuba, AIDS-related mortality progressively decreases and the incidence of this disease shows a tendency towards stabilization.

Among the actions to achieve control of the disease are the implementation of a prevention, diagnosis and antiretroviral treatment program, in which around two million serological tests are carried out each year. Cuba also shows encouraging results in the fight against HIV/AIDS, based on the start-up of new laboratories and guaranteeing the treatment of all patients with this ailment.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Health specified that new laboratory platforms were installed to carry out the viral load analysis. These centers allow to know the serological status of the patient, their viral load and at 12 months to know if they have the virus in their blood.

The prevalence of this epidemic in Cuba with respect to the world is low, with a tendency to stability, without exceeding 30,000 patients. (Source: PL)
