Cuba’s Island to Love Festival 2nd edition concluded in Italy

Rome, Jul 9 (RHC) The 2nd Festival of Cuba: An Island to Love, which concluded early this morning in the Italian capital, was a prelude to the Peoples' Summit to be held on July 17 and 18 in Brussels, Belgium.

On behalf of the Cuban Embassy, the third secretary for Cultural Affairs and Press, Alejandro Betancourt, conveyed the greetings of the ambassador, Mirta Granda, who is in her country for work meetings. He thanked the broad participation and acknowledged the support of the Municipality II of Rome.

He also highlighted the support of the local authorities of the Giardino di Verano, where the event took place, located in the aforementioned municipality in the east of the capital, as well as the support of groups of Cuban nationals living in this country and the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (Anaic).

The vice president of Municipality II, Emanuele Gisci, reaffirmed the support to Cuba by the local political authorities.

Irma Castillo, vice-president of the Timbalaye Project and one of the organizers of this initiative, highlighted in declarations to Prensa Latina that this festivity served to strengthen the solidarity of the Italians towards the Antillean country and condemned the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba.

For his part, the artistic director of the Giardino di Verano, Emanuele Caputo, told the news agency that “we have always been close to the Cuban people”, for whom “we feel great admiration, and whom we thank on behalf of the Italians for their support in the most difficult moments”, as happened during the Covid-19 pandemic.
