Cuban province works on 3D technology project for health

Havana, July 10 (RHC) A new project using 3D technology for the modeling of bone and cranial prostheses is being developed in the Cuban province of Matanzas to provide better health services to the population.

Conceived through the joint work of the University of Matanzas (UM), the Center for Advanced and Sustainable Manufacturing Studies (Cefas) and the Science-Technology Park belonging to the house of higher studies, the project, currently in the planning phase, foresees the construction of a unit specialized in manufacturing bone and cranial prostheses.

As explained by the website www.radio26.cu, the creation of the unit will make it possible to largely meet the high demand for this type of accessory in the health sector thanks to 3D modeling and hearing manufacturing that offers prototypes tailored to the needs of the patient.

The bone prostheses made by the new technology allow cost savings and also a better quality in the process of operation and recovery of patients with severe traumatology, by configuring the pieces with a personalized criterion of the different cases that arise.

The director of Cefas and head of research, Ramón Quiza, explained that the project works on the regeneration of cell tissue based on polylactic acid coated with apatites using a biodegradable material and a minimally invasive operation on the patient according to the fractures healed by the natural capacities of their own body.

The site adds that the experience of studies and results obtained previously, the technological capacity and the academic capital of the three institutions involved in the project provide it with the necessary tools for its implementation and successful development both in Matanzas and in the rest of the country.
