Havana, August 31 (RHC) -- The Cuban Foreign Ministry on Thursday welcomed the confirmation of the presence of United Nations Secretary General António Guterres at the upcoming G-77 and China Summit to be held in Havana in September.

In a message on his profile on X (formerly Twitter), Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez recalled that the meeting will address the current challenges of development and the role of science, technology and innovation in that effort.

Last June, President Miguel Díaz-Canel, in his capacity as President Pro Tempore of the Group, convened the Summit of Heads of State and Government for September 15 and 16, 2023, in Havana.

According to the dignitary, the occasion will serve to strengthen unity and decide on collective and practical actions to effectively face contemporary challenges.

With 134 member states, the G-77 and China represent 80 percent of the world's population and more than two thirds of the United Nations membership.

In January of this year, Cuba assumed the Pro Tempore Presidency of this negotiating bloc of developing countries.

During this period, the Caribbean nation hosted important meetings, among them the meetings of the Group's Ministers of Education, Culture and Tourism (Source: Prensa Latina). (Source: Prensa Latina)
