Colombian President at the UN

United Nations, Sep 19 (RHC) During his speech today at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Colombian President Gustavo Petro considered that Cuba is a country unjustly blocked.

On the podium before the plenary, he assured that, in addition, a former president of his country -whom he did not mention, but it is Iván Duque (2018-2022)- suggested including Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism "just because it had helped to make peace in Colombia".

This is how the Colombian president began his speech when recalling his recent tour in Chile to participate in the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the coup d'état against the socialist government of Salvador Allende, and in Cuba where he attended the G77 Summit.

After finishing the meeting in Havana, Petro asserted that the criminal consequence of Cuba's entry in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism cannot be maintained because its basis is nothing more than a lie.

Therefore, on behalf of his government, he asked to remove the Antillean nation from that spurious list drawn up by the United States.

In his profile on X, he explained that the inclusion is due to the request made by the government of Iván Duque (2018-2022) to the United States under the excuse that Cuba - by respecting the protocols of the dialogues with the ELN on the rupture of the process - the peace negotiators could not be handed over as hostages, as requested by the former governor.

"Previous agreements signed in the form of protocols by the countries of Colombia, Cuba and Norway were betrayed. Today my government is negotiating peace with those same free ELN negotiators", detailed the head of state.

Petro stressed that the consequence of Duque's betrayal of the word pledged by the Colombian government is that today most of the medicines that need to be imported for the lives of children cannot enter Cuba."

It is a criminal consequence that cannot be maintained because its basis is nothing more than a lie. Innocent lives cannot continue to be lost because of the blind fundamentalism in favor of violence of a former president of Colombia," he warned. He also warned that the U.S. government must begin to close and heal the open wounds in history with Latin America."

To remove Cuba from the list of countries that help terrorism, is to recover the truth in our relations and the beginning of a new dialogue to overcome the problems of our common America", remarked the dignitary.

He expressed that the country whose government requested to make such a dirty trick with a country that has helped with peace in Colombia, now in the voice of his government, asks to end this dirty trick (Source: PL).
