Santiago de Chile, January 23 (RHC) -- Chilean journalist and former minister, Víctor Osorio, recalled today that President Salvador Allende brought together intellectuals, artists and economists in 1971 to show the world the reality about the Popular Unity government.

"There is no doubt that the president was inspired by the Operation Truth carried out by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in 1959," he said.

In January of that year Fidel summoned hundreds of journalists in Havana to make known what was happening on the island and to thwart the campaign of slander against the revolutionary process.

Osorio intervened in a virtual forum sponsored by Crónica Digital on the occasion of the New Operation Truth International Conference organized this week by the Prensa Latina news agency in Havana, which gathered journalists from more than 30 countries.

The panel, moderated by the general editor of the Chilean alternative newspaper, Iván Gutiérrez, was also attended by the leader of the Chilean Journalists Circle and foreign correspondent, Margarita Bastías, and Prensa Latina correspondent Edgar Morales.

The professionals reflected on the control of the media by large consortiums, new technologies and news in Internet time, among other topics.   (Source: Prensa Latina).
