Mexico City, March 16 (RHC) -- In these times that the Cuban people are going through because of the blockade, economic solidarity is necessary at the same level as political solidarity, said Ambassador Marcos Rodriguez on Saturday at an event in Acapulco.

The head of Cuban diplomacy in this country spoke at the opening of the XXVIII National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in the famous resort city where he thanked the organization of the important event that takes place every year.

She emphasized the importance and the emotion provoked by the slogan chanted by those present, "Cuba te queremos sin bloqueo" (Cuba we love you without blockade).

It signifies the feelings of the vast majority of Mexicans, including President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has denounced the economic war against the island and demanded the elimination of this genocidal measure that the United States has been applying for more than six decades.

He considered it a great symbolism that this 28th meeting is being held in the resort city of Acapulco so heavily affected by Hurricane Otis, which is still not fully recovered from the damages it suffered but thanks to the efforts of its people and the Solidarity Movement, it can be celebrated.

He also addressed the dignified work of the Cuban doctors stationed in Mexico who gave their support to the victims of the hurricane in reciprocity to that received by the Cubans from Mexico in recent catastrophes.

In another part of his speech he referred to the close ties of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara with Mexico and its people and how the triumphant Revolution was prepared from here.

Since its triumph in January 1959, both were the architects of the relationship with the Mexican people and a substantive part of the internationalism of which they are paradigms.

He described the current situation in Cuba and said that the Cuban people are today resisting the increased aggression with the will and morale bequeathed by the eternal leaders, facing colossal challenges due to a very hard economic situation caused by the blockade with which the enemies seek to break them by provoking hunger and desperation.

The ambassador described this inhuman aggression as the cruelest model of genocide imposed on the country, the ultimate culmination of which is to include it in the unhealthy list of countries sponsoring terrorism in an attempt to close all doors to the outside world.

Media information, he denounced, has become a powerful weapon of this time and we Cubans are ready to fight it and wage that battle by joining forces with friends of solidarity with Cuba, such as the Mexican Movement and the Continental Network and we know that at the working tables a fundamental issue that will be discussed is that of achieving economic solidarity at the same level as political solidarity.
